Today was the day that all of our work became public to the city of Jacksonville!! The five wooden panels, measuring 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide each, were picked up and installed across from Florida Theatre this afternoon! The temptation to visit the mural location and take pictures simply could not be resisted!!

Enjoy the pictures of the culmination of all of our students’ hard work this spring and visit the actual mural location directly across the street from the front entrance of the Florida Theatre at the corner of East Forsyth and Newnan!┬áBe on the lookout for our students’ work to be in the news…

Before the Florida Theatre crew came to pick up the mural panels, we just HAD to take some group shots of the students with their work!

A New Adventure Begins…

We have a new partnership with the Florida Theatre! This partnership means that soon the Alden Road art class will have a public mural on display in downtown Jacksonville! This mural will consist of 5 panels measuring 8 feet tall by 4 feet wide each (equaling a total of 20 feet wide and 8 feet tall!)…quite the undertaking!

Here are a few pictures of the first days of this massive project!

While we primed the panels, we also did a bit of studying Pop Art and the works of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Here are a few of the images we examined and the some pieces inspired by the studies…

Now how might we use these images in our mural???

We are working on transforming our art students into Keith Haring figures to create the audience for the scene taking place in our mural!!

Here’s a sneak peek at our first panel…painting starts tomorrow!
