Mid-Week Creations

It’s the middle of the second week of school and we are working at the fastest speed imaginable! We have been painting using warm (red, orange and yellow) and cool (green, blue and purple) color families, blending watercolors and tempera paints. We began to work with tissue paper, collaging layers upon layers of color. We worked with textiles to add a sensory element to our work. We made a couple more mobiles and we are about to start some weaving projects!

Below are a few pictures of what we’ve been doing and how the classroom is evolving…

Week One Work

Our first week of school was a busy one! This week brought the tough work of getting readjusted to a school schedule…and a ton of rain, but we didn’t let either slow us down. This week we turned line and shape studies into Mobiles inspired by the work of Alexander Calder!

Mobiles inspired by Alexander Calder. This piece was made by the 2nd period art class.

We also dove into some abstract art using India ink lines and/or black glue lines and watercolor paints. Here are some of the pieces so far:

The First Day of School

The first day of the new school year is in the books for 2013-2014! The students at Alden Road had their first art class and they were ready for work! Two classes made Origami King Cobras while other classes studied and practiced drawing various kinds of lines and shapes. To be posted by the end of the day are pictures from around the classroom and of our snake infestation!
