Sneak peek at some of the finished products…
Tuesday, May 6-Friday, May 10, 2014 will bring the VSA Festival to Jacksonville! This event is hosted by their local affiliate The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens.
“VSA is an international organization that provides opportunities in the arts for individuals with disabilities. The annual VSA Festival allows students with disabilities the chance to explore the gardens, view original works of art and experience art through all of their senses. About 2,300 children with disabilities, ranging from mild to profound disabilities and nearly 1,200 volunteers fill the Museum over a four day period. This event invites all students to participate in the creative process at their individual level of ability” -VSA page on The Cummer website.
Through a partnership with The Cummer, our students were able to create the art for the VSA Festival this year!! The art created through this project will be on the t-shirts, banners, bags, event page and all of the material associated with the VSA festival for 2014. Twelve of the pieces from this project will also be framed and placed on display in The Cummer. This is a HUGE opportunity and we are wildly excited to be selected for this work!
Matthew, a museum educator at The Cummer, came to Alden Road and worked with our class on a two-day printmaking project to create the art for this amazing event. Our students worked with a Florida wildlife theme to create, carve and print pieces.
Posted here are pictures of the drawing, carving, and printing process as well as the final products our students created during these two classes. Enjoy and look out for our work to be on display soon!
